New Body Sculpting Technique Using High-Intensity Ultrasound
A new body sculpting technique uses a noninvasive ultrasound, eliminates unwanted abdominal fat, reduces waist size with minimal pain and side effects.
INDIANAPOLIS, IN, September 30, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- A new body sculpting technique uses a noninvasive ultrasound, eliminates unwanted abdominal fat, reduces waist size with minimal pain and side effects.
The most common form of body sculpting is liposuction which removes a fairly large amount of fat but, as it is a surgical procedure, involves more pain, side effects, cost, and risk. The high intensity ultrasound procedure provides a nonsurgical alternative with less risk.
Though liposuction may remove more fat, there are added benefits to using the alternative method. Dr. Joseph Fata of the Renaissance Plastic Surgery Center explains some benefits of choosing the ultrasound technique over liposuction, "If someone has a small, isolated fat deposit, high intensity external ultrasound offers a way to reduce this fat deposit without surgery. However, for anyone who is looking for more than a one inch change in their waistline, they are better served with more traditional techniques, such as ultrasonic liposuction."
Researchers evaluated the results of the new high-intensity ultrasound technique on the abdomen and flanks of 180 patients. It's important to note that these patients were non-obese, having a body mass index of less than 30. Eighty-five percent of the patients were woman and the average age was 42 years.
Patients were indiscriminately chosen to undergo high-intensity ultrasound treatment at a high or lower energy level, or an inactive treatment with no energy. After 12 weeks, the patients' results were compared to the three groups.
The results corroborated the effectiveness of the high-intensity procedure, most notably with the higher energy level. The waist size decreased by an average of one-inch in the high-energy ultrasound group.
The study's results substantiated the effectiveness of the high-intensity ultrasound procedure to gain a modest change in the waist size of non-obese individuals. This new technique is safe and causes little to no pain or side effects for patients.
